Since June 1996, the Centre has brought state of the art laser services to users in the mid north coast and nearby regions including Tamworth, Armidale, Glen Innes, Inverell, Grafton, Kempsey and Port Macquarie.
Laser treatment available has been for the treatment of red birth marks in children, facial capillaries, tattoes and for excessive facial and body hair through the use of the ESC Photoderm. The Photoderm makes use of a unique technology which is still a world first and the PCL Surgery Centre was one of the earliest users of of this revolutionary machine in the Australia/New Zealand region.
In addition, the PCL Surgery Centre also introduced the Carbon Dioxide Laser, and for some time the Erbium Yag Laser. The Carbon Dioxide Laser has been used for Facial Resurfacing for cosmetic improvement as well as in the treatment of scarring after acne and trauma. In addition, the Carbon Dioxide Laser has extensive use in the treatment of Skin Cancers with skin resurfacing techniques and in OculoPlastic Surgery ( surgery of the eyelids and of structures around the eye ).
"Foto Facial" Rejuvenation is an an interesting new development where short wave length laser light is used to rejuvenate facial skin instead of the more common resurfacing with long wave length lasers such as the Carbon Dioxide and Erbium Yag Lasers. The major advantage of "Foto Facial" Rejuvenation is the lack of "down time" due to the treatment, ie. there is no raw surface after the treatment ( needing dressings or time away from work or normal activities ), post laser treatment redness or risk of infection, small though the risk is. However, the treatment needs to be done four times, at 3 to 4 weekly intervals. The technique is also useful for rejuvenation of skin of the dorsum of the hand and neck.
